SIGOMA

SIGOMA is a special interest group of 45 urban authorities in the northern, midland and south-coast regions of England. We are the collective voice across these regions and embody the opportunities and potential of the communities who live there. The SIGOMA group of local authorities has a joint population of around 13 million people – making it one of the largest special interest groups within the Local Government Association and accountable for about 25% of local government spending in England.

The aims of SIGOMA are to:

  • represent the interests of our members within the Local Government Association
  • channel the views of our members to Government, the LGA, Government Departments and any other appropriate body.
  • provide a forum for discussion at the highest political level, of matters of common concern to member authorities.

SIGOMA Authorities need resources and freedoms to improve the opportunities of the local communities they represent. Over the last eight years, we have worked hard to make sure that SIGOMA provides an authoritative and influential voice on local government finance and funding issues, seeking to ensure that some of the most deprived communities in the country receive the investment they need.

SIGOMA also recognises the breadth of issues facing our urban areas and will continue to work with local partners, like primary care trusts and Government departments to improve the health and well being of communities in urban areas.
